Calling all local artists
The Roundabout is coming to town – and it needs YOU!
For one week only, a pop-up arts festival is coming to Margate from September 3rd – 7th.
The Roundabout Festival is five days of non-stop events that all take place in a state-of-the-art pop-up amphitheatre seating 168 people, completely in the round, that flat packs into a single lorry and can pop up anywhere from theatres to school halls, sports centres to warehouses. It will be constructed over 2 days in the grand Main Hall of Margate’s Winter Gardens and when it’s complete it will showcase a festival programme of comedy, theatre, dance, music and events for all ages.
Roundabout is the most dynamic, most innovative, most essential new theatre in the country and is brought to us by legendary touring theatre company Paines Plough, straight from the Edinburgh Festival 2014.
But we want to make the Roundabout’s setting even grander. The amphitheatre measures 12m across and this will leave plenty of space around it to fill. And that’s where you come in.
We want to hear your ideas on how we can decorate the theatre. Regrettably there’s no budget so we’re hoping that work is existing and can be adapted to the space. We only ask that artwork is flame retardant and can be installed without damaging the shell of the building.
You’ll get great publicity for your work, free access to all the events, and our undying gratitude.
We know there are some really talented artists out there who would kill to work in a space like this and help make Margate’s Roundabout the best of all.
