We would like to apologise to our customers who experienced problems when trying to buy Michael McIntyre tickets online today (12th August 2014).
We had anticipated a significant volume of interest but the Theatre Royal Margate website was overwhelmed by the phenomenal number of people attempting to access it simultaneously. The website saw 3000% more traffic between 8am – 9.30am than the average daily traffic. As a result, the site became inaccessible and therefore we were unable to place the ‘Buy Tickets’ link on the main event page.
This lead to confusion and an increase in people calling the box office. It also left a lot of people feeling (understandably) frustrated. Clearly this shouldn’t have happened and we’re now looking at ways we can prevent this in the future. This includes:
1) Increasing website bandwidth through our server provider for big event on sale dates
2) Ensuring that ticketing links are added further in advance to the event pages
We’re grateful to all the customers who let us have their feedback, positive and negative, via Facebook, Twitter and our website. We’re currently collating all your comments and will use them to review how we do things and help us plan for future on sale dates.
